John Coy's Lecture

In the beginning of John Coy’s lecture, he showed some of his portfolio work from 1969 to now. He was the first president of AIGA (Association Institute of Graphic Arts). His work was very clean and very well presented, although I really wished that he discussed his work a little more because there’s still so much I want to know about his work. One thing I remember him saying in the lecture that I thought was really inspirational is that you have to find yourself in order to know what you’re going to do on your artwork and your life. I found it inspirational because I strongly believe that personality is what really defines a person and it’s very important to show your personality in your artwork so you will be able to tell the audience who you are without having to use words.

App Ideas

For Art 301, we have to create an app design. Here are five apps that inspired me the most:

1. Shazam

This app is able to identify a song that you hear, tells you information about the artist or band, gives you links of where to hear the song and concert info.

2. Around Me

The Around Me app figures out where you are and list a bunch of local services such as Apple Retail Stores, restaurants, banks, gas stations and many more.

3. Peko

Peko is an amazing and fun app that has three benefits: playing games, meet new people, and earning points to exchange them for cash. It's an app that is great for socializing with new people and could earn you easy cash.

4. Swagbucks

Another rewards earning app that will let you earn points for watching videos, searching the web, surveys, daily polls and many more. You can use these points to get gift cards from multiple retailers such as Target, Paypal, Amazon.com, and more.

5. Behance

Behance is an online portfolio website that allows artists to show off their work and have dozens of creative companies look for these artists to work for them. I like this app because you're able to take your online portfolio wherever you go and also great for networking with potential clients.

Examples of My Work

These are some of my best works from CSUN.

Examples of Good Packaging and Bad Packaging

In our society, we come across packaging design in our local grocery stores, retail stores, and other places that carry everyday merchandise. In packaging design, there are designs that are very creative and effective while other designs are really hard to look at and would make consumers not want to purchase the item.

Good Packaging:
These packages are effective because of the colors relating to the product, the use of imagery, and using classic typography. All of these elements are what makes these packaging designs simple but effective at the same time.

 Bad Packaging:
Although there are good package designs, there are also bad package designs as well. There are multiple reasons why some package designs are considered bad; these reasons include the incorrect usage of typography, not providing enough color or using too much color, being too direct, and not enough effort was given in these designs at all.

What Inspired Me To Be A Graphic Designer

As a child, I've always love thinking outside the box and would try to make it come to life by putting it on paper. I wanted to have a career that would let me express myself in a creative way and putting my creativity to good use. Originally I wanted to get into animation, but turning a story into an animated show was too time consuming and I didn't have enough patience to handle it. Looking through so many advertisements, billboards, movie posters and magazine covers, I was really inspired by how creativity was used as a form of communication and persuasive.

I did research to see if there were any careers that will let me design things like that and that's when I discover graphic design. As a freshman, I was so amazed of the upperclassmen's graphic works and how they were able to turn something so simple into something that's really worth looking at. Believe it or not, art is always looked down upon as a career but the artwork that I've seen from packaging and advertisements everywhere it does show me that art careers can do great things for our society. What really inspired me to get into graphic design were the advertisements I've seen whereever I go because it inspired me to not only make creative artwork but to use creativity as a tool to convey a message without having to use words.
